Internship Opportunity at International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, UN, Hague


The International Tribunal for the Prosecution of Persons Responsible for Serious Violations of International Humanitarian Law Committed in the Territory of the Former Yugoslavia since 1991, is a body of the United Nations established to prosecute serious crimes committed during the wars in the former Yugoslavia, and to try their perpetrators.
This position is located in the Internship Programme Office within the Human Resources Section, Registry. The Internship Programme is seeking an intern who is available to begin as soon as possible.
Responsibilities
  • The intern will manage the Internship Programme Office, which includes acting as focal point for all internal and external enquiries regarding internships; drafting correspondence and handling telephone enquiries.
  • Posting new internship vacancies; preparing internship offer letters and following up on documentation.
  • Informing departments of the status of applications.
  • Providing induction briefing to new interns.
  • Processing check-outs and updating databases. The incumbent will ensure a smooth working relationship with potential candidates, other interns and staff members within the Tribunal. Additionally the Coordinator will assist the Human Resources Section with ad-hoc duties when necessary.

 Benefits

  • An ICTY internship is UNPAID and full-time.
  • Core working hours for interns are Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Interns work under the supervision of a staff member in the office to which they are assigned.
  • The initial internship period is 6 months which may be extended upon request based on the need and availability of the Human Resources Section.

 Eligibilities

Education
  • To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
    be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
  • be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) in a relevant field (e.g. Administration, Human Resources); or
  • have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation.
Work Experience
  • Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participating in the programme, and must be at least 18 years old. Previous administrative experience is an asset.
Languages
  • English and French are the working languages of the Tribunal. Fluency in oral and written English is required.

6. A sample of written work (in English or French) preferably in a field relevant to the work of the Tribunal and no more than ten pages long.
