Habitat for Humanity Young Leaders Build Advocacy Grants 2018



The Habitat for Humanity Young Leaders Build 2018 campaign brings together young people from across the Asia-Pacific region to support families in need of decent housing. Young people volunteer, fundraise and speak out for the need for decent and affordable housing as a way out of poverty and toward self-reliance.
As part of the 2018 campaign, Habitat for Humanity is inviting eligible youth organizations and individuals to apply for grants in the amount of US$ 500-1,000 as financial support towards advocacy activities.
Areas that will be supported through the grants:
Activities should aim to influence decision-makers or change practice or systems so that more people in the Asia- Pacific region can have access to land for housing. Advocacy activities should tackle any of the themes below:
  • Housing – Should decent and affordable housing be at the center of cities’ growth and development plans? Are there laws at the local or national level that guarantee everyone’s right to decent housing?
  • Disaster resilience ─ Are existing laws and regulations providing efficient and effective support to people affected by disasters? How can governments consistently provide resources so communities and families are empowered to reduce their disaster exposure and vulnerabilities?
  • Gender and property rights ─ How can law, policies or norms make it possible for both men and women to equally own land or other property?
  • Slum upgrading ─ Can communities dialogue with local authorities to get the assurance that people living in slums can have tenure security? What resources can be made available to slum dwellers so they can upgrade their urban residences and communities?
  • Security of tenure ─ What can policymakers do to ensure that everyone has access to land for shelter without fear of evictin

    • Individuals and/or organizations can receive US$500 –US$ 1,000 as financial support towards advocacy activities in their communities.
    • Each applicant may present more than one application for consideration.

     Eligibilities

    • Youth organizations, groups, and individuals in Asia-Pacific (where Habitat for Humanity has offices) are eligible to receive grants.
    • Habitat for Humanity’s national organizations can also encourage and facilitate the participation of potential applicants.
