Advocate for Social Change: Social Entrepreneur Matter

“Ang goal ko po ay makapag contribute man lang ako kahit sa maliit na paraan.” -Clyde Arcosa

On the 32nd episode of the “Bilib Kami Sa'yo” segment of the Voice of the Youth Live aired on February 20, 2021, Clyde “Kuya Clyde” Arcosa shared the stories and experiences of his journey from being a former loafer to now a social entrepreneur and a youth advocate.

Arcosa is one of the founders of Business Incubator for Grassroots Entrepreneur and Creative Entrepreneurs Organization (C.E.O.), both aiming to motivate and change people’s perspective while at the same time encouraging young people to do business. He inspires and influences many with his advocacies.

During the interview, he reveals that he “immersed” in the poor sector of Muntinlupa to conduct his research about poverty. “Bahagi ng social activities ko na tulungan sila”, he said. He was able to coach residents especially the out of school youth, parents and many more on ways to survive especially during the pandemic.

He confessed that his childhood is something that he cannot be proud of. Back then, he indulged himself in vices, either in alcohol or drugs. Due to being overly drunk, he tends to sleep in the streets. Then there’s this point in his life that he realized what his purpose in life is.

It changed when he joined the National Youth Commission (NYC) in 2017. His perspective and mindset significantly alter. NYC opens Arcosa’s mind as it discusses different social concerns involving the young people such as teenage pregnancy, out of school youth and unemployed youth.

Not an entrepreneur, but a social entrepreneur

Arcosa also highlighted the project of C.E.O called TROPA & TAMBAYAN which provides opportunities to the young people to engage in business. He emphasizes that his organization is different from other kinds of businesses. They are not profit-oriented yet it gives importance to improving the quality of life of young people.

They offer mentorship, training, and offer different programs. This is what they called the “incubation” process. “Holistic approach siya”, he said. This is also an avenue for youth to be informed and have awareness of social issues in the society. Mr. Arcosa’s project offers a possible solution to fight the said social concerns.

Mr. Arcosa is one great example that anyone can do something, create something meaningful regardless of your age or status in the society. His stories and experiences serve as an inspiration to other youth that we should live with a purpose.
